Dot NAME Domain Names

Set up in 2001, the .NAME generic domain name extension is the sole TLD meant for personal websites only. These domains can include personal or fictional names, nicknames and/or other titles people are popular by. At first, solely 3rd-level registrations were allowed, so if you desired to register john.doe.name, you had to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were liberalized and second-level registrations were also allowed. Already acquired third-level domain names remained online.
